I'm sure you're all excited to hear about my dr. appointment today, so here's the skinny-
I saw Dr. Hoffsommer at Dakota Clinic. To his credit and my relief, he never suggested that I alter my training program in any way. Turns out I need orthodics. I learned all kinds of not so great news today about my feet. I have bunions and a bunionette (on the outside of my foot). One leg is longer than the other, I'm slightly bowlegged, and I have something called tibial jarum (he wrote it down for me) that leads to rear foot pronation. Evidently I have low arches and narrow feet. The fat pads on my heels have atrophied, and I have athletes foot.
The good news is, I should be able to correct most of my trouble with orthodics, and I was able to get into the lab and have foam molds made today. They will be ready in about 2 weeks. Then I will have to go through the process of breaking them in.
What I can't decide now, is how much running I want to do before I get the orthodics. I think I will run my 12 this Saturday, but scale back tomorrow and just do 5.
Today I'm feeling very old and feeble- atrophied fat pads and all. At least Kim doesn't HAVE fat pads on her feet- mine are worse! Why couldn't it be belly fat that atrophied????

OMG! You are a mess....I think you found out way more than you had intended. But it is your feet, not your brain, I guess don't be going to a shrink right now. Hopefully the orthodics will do the trick. How is it that our feet get rid of excess fat, but nowhere else?????? Welcome to my world. I did love the bunionette, is that a baby bunion?
Wow! ditto what Kim said! Isn't it fun finding out how human we really are? I'm quite sure I built up the fat pads in all areas of my bod over Easter. Then...just as the last of the potato salad vanished to my bulging gut.....My girlscout cookies arrived!!! Can we run another 20 on Saturday?!?
Benita....I hope your orthotics do the trick!
I'm pretty sure I still have fat pads. In fact, with the water I have retained from all of that Easter ham--yeah, I've got fat pads!!!
You'll love your orthotics, Benita. I won't run without mine, now.
You really had me laughing out loud with your shrink comment, Kim.
A bunionette is a small protrusion on the outside of the foot instead of on the inside by your big toe- I think...
thanks for your support!
Yikes - lots of foot issues! I too have one leg longer than the other and was diagnosed with a "leg whip". Short story is that I have IT Band (knee) issues because of a hip strength imbalance. And I corrected a bad left arm swing. So as humbling as it is to hear that you are not a perfect physical specimen, good job on getting to the bottom of what the problem is. Now you can fix it and move on, hopefully pain free. Dang, if you didn't have a street name already, you could be "bunionette". On the topic of fat pads, I'm not going there, except that I'll be seeing mine close up tonite while trying on wedding dresses. EEEEK!

I am So thankful I'm Madame B instead of "Bunionette"
By the way, Tracy- I didn't see you comment on YOUR street name- check last week's blog for the Tracy's street name post-
We came up with Pink or Pinky T (t for tush)
Have fun shopping!
