Tempo Run
I had every intention of having my butt on the the line at 6:00 am. (Notice I was too chicken to even think of putting my toe on the line!) I am curious to see what the TRF is all about. However, this nasty chest cold I have prevents me from leaving the house. From the previous posts it sounds like a pretty intense training event. (I am beginning to feel I am out of my league to even consider giving this a try). Please fill me in on how it went this morning :)

So sorry to hear about your cold. I had that nasty chest cold the entire week after the marathon, no fun!
The tempo run was fun! It was a tough workout but the track is really nice to run on and Tom Smith is a very organized and encouraging facilitator. We start out jogging a few laps to warm up, then do some stretching, then they do some "strides" or some quick little sprints to make sure you are warmed up. Then you just go run a 5K - 12 1/2 laps - as fast as you can. The fast runners zip by you with words of encouragment.
There was quite a large group of us. Kim, Jen Q, and myself from the whors and Brenda Kerbaugh and Marilyn Laliberty and a gal we met named Sherri and a couple super fast girls I never got close enough to catch their names. Then of course quite a large group of guys. I liked it. I ran my fastest 5K ever - 25:30!! And I went there not intending to bust anything out at all!
I'll be going back!

Like Donna, I intended to go this morning, but I didn't make it. Fortunately, I'm healthy, evidently just lazy. Sounds like I missed out on a good workout.
I will be at Courts Monday morning- it wil be my last group run for awhile- I'm looking forward to it!
I wouldn't call it fun, it was hard work, but I ran my fastest 5k also. Not used to hearing myself gasping so much for so long. Very rewarding when I finished. Other runners are very encouraging. I was one of the last to finish. No big deal tho.
I did get a piggy back ride on Craig Holly's back, I wanted to run his pace and that was the only way to do it......Tom Smith may expel me.......
I too, planned on being at the TRF. But when Tom rolled out of bed at 5am, I went back to sleep until 6:30. This wedding stuff has my brain on overload, so I've been sleeping hard.
Ran 4 miles yesterday and wanted to cry. Everything hurt.
I'm going to pass on the lakes run Sat morning (thanks Dr. J), but will either run the Lindenwood 10K at 7:30am, or sleep in and run when I get up.

So, was Jen D there? or Jenn Q? I had every intention of being there too...but I swam last night with Jen D and didn't get home until late. In addition, I have had a mild cold (that makes my lungs very tight) since the marathon. And it's not going away!!! At any rate, I wasn't there...and am kicking myself. Is anyone running tommorrow morning in town?
Oh... I appreciate all of your comments. It sounds like you had a good workout...which is what I have been missing of late. I am so encouraged to give it a try next week. Hopefully this dumb chest cold will go away! (My bladder isn't going to last much longer if it doesn't!!!!) I hate getting old!
PS What time are you running on Monday? How far?
GiGi...
Monday, Kathleen's run: 5:45 am from Courts, 3 miles for her three years.
Nice work, Dianne and Kim!!! But Kim, don't you go getting us kicked out with your antics!!!
Hey--how did you know how many laps you did? Is it our responsiblity to do this?? I would have trouble and have to pull out Leah's penny trick!
Do the boys go by you so fast that you spin around in circles like in the cartoons???
had every intention of going, too. no good reason, other than fear, that i didn't go. no cold. no phlem. just good, old fashioned fear of having to work too hard. weeney. glad i didn't go. i'd probably still be there...with my pennies. :)
by the way, it's my 36 month check-up. maybe you should run 36 miles. just a thought.
speedbump
Yeah sure you betcha...36 miles...we'll do it your way...run a mile, lay down for a minute, run a mile, repeat!
You do have to count your laps but Tom seemed to be tracking them as well cuz he knew exactly when I had done 6 then 11 and was at the finish too.....
The fast folk do about spin you around...especially toward the end when they are getting tired and they don't always allow a whole lane between as they go by...or maybe I was just feeling faint from running so darn fast! (ha!) It was a little intimidating being lapped so many times.....but I understand those fast flyers like having targets to try to knock over!
I really enjoyed the high energy of the group tho.
I think you should bring quarters tho since the track is kinda coppertoned.
How 'bout 3.6 miles instead of 36 on Monday? I'd still be out there on Tuesday.
I'm laughing thinking about Kathleen wearing a shirt that says "Speedbump" on it, then being the cover girl on next year's Marathon brochure. All sorts of strangers would be coming up to her: "Hey, you're Speedbump". Sorry, end of the day, make no sense humor. Nappy time!

3 or 3.6 sounds good on Monday. I am hoping to make it, although I may not be able to keep up with some of you speed demons:-) My cold is just about gone and I am starting to feel normal again.
I know I'm a little late to the party, but I was the slowest one out there, and still thought it was worth-while! It was my first run since the marathon, and I was completely gasping the entire time. I didn't run my fastest 5K, but almost, and do think it will help me get there. It is a motivational group, and someone has to finish last, right:)??
Ok JQ ...you have me convinced I CAN do this tempo run thing.
I hope to see you there on Friday. Don't be surprised if you are no longer last...haha
I will definitely be there again this week, and hope to see a few more of you. I won't even mind if I'm the last one again.
I almost feel peer-pressured into coming now!!!! It may be a competition to see who comes in last!!! See you girls there! ;)
